• Each student’s path is unique. The way to college, career, and military readiness begins with self-discovery.  By starting conversations and exploration as early as possible, KISD prepares students to make decisions about their life after high school graduation.

Beginning in seventh grade, KISD students will start using Naviance to explore their interests and think about their futures. Students will continue to use the Naviance system through graduation.  Naviance allows students to learn about their strengths and reflect on their interests. Assessments provide suggestions on how to apply personality traits and learning styles in class, in addition to helping students discover career options based on their interests and strengths. Armed with this information, students can plan courses to complement their career pathway.

Students will use Naviance to research colleges and careers of interest they determine that are the best fit for their personal and career goals.  Naviance is used to collect information that can be transferred to college applications, manage student-counselor communications and college recommendation requests, and track applications submitted to schools as well as:

    • Researching careers, colleges, and majors
    • Finding local and national scholarships and enrichment programs
    • Exploring students’ career interests, learning styles, personality types, and multiple intelligences
    • Building resumes and holistic portfolios for job and college applications
    • Setting goals and developing personalized plans for success.
    • Requesting and sending transcripts
    • Learning about success skills, financial planning, self-discovery, and building a support network
